New York Times: Gov. Sarah Palin Cleared of Ethics Charges

sp Not that I had any doubts, but what a great bit of news to find in the email box.  It won’t undo all the damage done in the troopergate witch hunt, but it certainly won’t hurt to have this news out there.

Breaking News Alert The New York Times Monday, November 3, 2008 — 7:42 PM ET —– Gov. Sarah Palin Cleared of Ethics Charges Timothy J. Petumenos, the independent counsel to the Alaska Personnel Board, concluded that in the firing of the former Alaska public safety commissioner Walt Monegan, “There is no probable cause to believe that the governor or any other state official violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters.”

Update 11/4

Alaska Personnel Board investigations are normally secret, but the three-member board decided to release this report, citing public interest in the matter given Palin’s status as a candidate for national office. Election Day is Tuesday.

Telephone messages left with state Sens. Hollis French, who led the legislative investigation, and Sen. Kim Elton, chairman of the Legislative Council, were not immediately returned.

For those who will claim that this board is biased toward Sarah Palin, I remind you that the lead investigator, Timothy Petumenos, was hired by the board, not Sarah Palin and the two senators who filled out the 3 member board are both Democrats.
