Ronald Reagan on Socialized Medicine and Socialism

Filed under: National Issue — Tags: — wally @ 6:55 am

Ronald Reagan speaks against socialized medicine and Socialism in this 10 minute recording that was part of the 1961 Operation Coffee Cup Campaign against a Socialized Medicine program that was proposed by the Democrats of this time.    Then actor only, Ronald Reagan speaks against the program which eventually became medicare and also talks about the potential future of Socialism in our nation.  In hindsight, this is another example of the great vision he had.  We should continue to listen.

  1. 3. The weird thing is that at the time, Reagan was funded by the American Medical Association to fight the government policy which eventually became…..Medicare. Today, the AMA LOVES Medicare and every time the government tries to cut government money for Medicare, the AMA becomes outraged and campaigns against cuts. So, what was “evil and dangerous” socialism 40 years ago has become the love-child of “private, capitalist” medicine and doctors today. Despite what Limbaugh, O’Reilly and the others are saying, in a few years time, “private” medicine will end up LOVING what today is being called “Obama socialism.” Socialism is gone and I don’t think anyone even knows what it means anymore (myself included!!).

Anyways, at the very least….gotta love Reagan’s hairdo, so perfect even in his 70s!

  4. Mark,
Nice try. The AMA might “love” Medicare, but the majority of AMERICANS did not want socialized medicine forced on us. If the Feds manage ObamaCare as well as they have Medicare and SS, we’re all in deep expletive deleted. They’re both almost broke. The unfunded liability projected for 75 years out is about $75 trillion for Medicare alone! We’ve been living on borrowed money for decades and the jig is almost up.

“At its start, in 1966, Medicare cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee estimated that Medicare would cost only about $12 billion by 1990 (a figure that included an allowance for inflation). This was a supposedly “conservative” estimate. But in 1990 Medicare actually cost $107 billion.”

And Medicare fraud is in the billions — yearly! Liberals like you always deny/twist history and facts, and you never can call evil by it’s name. Socialism is indeed evil and is alive and kicking today. If you voted for Obama and continue to provide cover for him, YOU are part of the problem. You are the “useful idiot” that Leftists need to accomplish their goals. And Obama couldn’t carry Reagan’s jock strap. — CCC
