It just struck me hard the way that the same story can have such different perspectives. I could surmise that the Herald, and especially KGMI, want to paint the “Governoire” in a favorable light, while the Times is going to explain what that favorable light is going to cost us.
Governor Christine Gregoire’s budget proposal includes some big increases for education and other projects in Whatcom County. The proposal includes $330 million for K-through-12 education in Whatcom County. That’s a nearly $26 million increase. $10 million in clean-up grants would go to the Port of Bellingham. Birch Bay State Park would get $10 million for shoreline water system upgrades. Western Washington University would receive $21.5 million to renovate and modernize facilities.

For the next two years, about $220 million would pay for cleaning up pollution, restoring habitat, improving septic systems and controlling storm water throughout Puget Sound, according to Gov. Chris Gregoire’s proposed $29.94 billion two-year budget released Tuesday.
